UMD won’t coast along against the WCHA’s winless team, that’s for sure. They’ll play their usual game, and when you’ve lost thirteen straight that’s an unpleasant prospect.
A more competitive series, one which could serious repercussions for one team involved, is Wisconsin at North Dakota. If the Dakotans can eke one win out of two, they’re sitting pretty. There was a cute feature piece on UND defender Madison Kolls on USCHO this week. Apparently she has not yet been invited out to the famed coulee to play shinny yet. I guess when you have six siblings it becomes unnecessary to involve outsiders. A few more games which could turn a bubble team’s fortunes around are Harvard-BC and Northeastern-BU.
By contrast to a slowish weekend in the big leagues there’s mucho competition going on in Div-III. Number one RIT will try to maintain its perfect season against 4-2 conference rival Neumann. The saints come marching in as two five-win MIAC teams, St. Catherine and St. Mary’s, face off. Theologically you have to go with the Queen of Heaven in that one. U of Wisconsin satellites River Falls and Eau Claire go at it for bragging rights. Former number one Amherst faces unbeaten Trinity. The marquee match-up, though, has to be number two Plattsburgh against number three Norwich. That’s just tonight, people. I’m too exhausted to even parse out any more. All these games may be followed on Twitter if you’ve got the hashtags.
Happy Chanukah and happy hockey to all, and to all a good night.
